May 8, 2006

It's been a year since anything went up.  Turned out the contractor for the garage was a crook.  We've successfully completed the lawsuit to recover some of the lost funding.  Unfortunately, he went bankrupt, so all we have is his bond to collect on.

On the bright side, work on the new shop is finally going on!

Last friday, we got the main waterline to the house moved, and the stubs for the faucet spigots put into place.  Also got the excavation cleaned up; erosion from heavy rains over the winter had collapsed some of the sides.

Yesterday, we got the forms in place for the footings for the 5' extension (if you remember, the last contractor had decided to make the garage smaller than specified for some unknown reason).

Just realized looking at the last page, that I don't have pictures of the foundation up yet, so there's a single shot at the bottom of the page.  Anyways, here's the big footing for the 5' extension part of the 14' retaining wall.

Brand new waterline.  By the time this is backfilled, it'll be down at least 5'.  Much better than the exposed line we had during this past winter.  Froze solid.  Pain in the ass.

The part that run vertically is wider than it needs to be, but it was the easiest way to tie it in.  A little extra support can't hurt.  By noon Tuesday, this should be full of concrete.

Here's a shot of the foundation so far.  Since I didn't get any up last year, this one will have to do.  The pockets at the top are for the steel beams.  Primary support structure are steel columns & beams, with pan decking for the upper floor.
