March 20, 2004

Made a quick trip out to Home Depot to get some staples to secure the wiring run, and an outlet box/outlet/cover plate setup.

Tacked the wire in place, and then hammered the box into place.  The basement (I really have to start taking more pictures!) is unfinished, so access wasn't an issue, except where shelving was blocking the junction box for the spare circuit.

Wired the outlet, made sure the circuit was off, then spliced the new run into the spare feed.  Went up, flipped the breaker, and didn't see any fire, sparks, or other nasty telltales, so maybe I remembered my basic wiring, LOL.

Circuit tester says I wired it correctly, so now I'm good to go.  Plug the compressor in, and flip it on.  No light flickers, yay!

All this work was necessary, because Jeremy (son) and I spent 3 hours constantly working away on the angle iron trying to clean it up.  We finally came to the conclusion that:

  • It must be made outta harder steel than what other folks are using

  • The rusted areas had formed pits that we just weren't going to be able to get out, and

  • Time to fall back on Van's regular method!

At this point we decided to put off the actual tail work until tomorrow.  We cleaned up the area (the sanding had made a humongous mess) and called it a night.  I'll have more pictures on monday, I promise.
