March 1, 2005

Progress is fitful at the moment.  Business has been taking over a lot of my extra thought cycles.  Nothing bad, just lots of work.  That...and I've been slacking.  Some good news is that I'm getting ready to build a new shop, and so space won't be at such a premium.  More on that later!

I finally pulled out the 2 HS halves and got started putting them together.  Here I've got the front spar cleco'd into place.

Dad's little helper.  Not sure where the other one was hiding, but he was probably down here somewhere.

The nose ribs are pretty painless once you have them riveted to the skin...pop rivets!

On the ends there is actual access, so these get squeezed.  The number "20" corresponds to another piece marked with the identical #.  Best way of making sure that the pieces wind up back where they belong after match-drilling.

I ended up drilling out one of the rivets because it looked like there was some space between the web of the spar and the flange of the rib.  I then clamped the pieces together and re-riveted it.  There's no space at the rivet, just the little bit that sometimes appears when riveting a small thin piece to a large thick piece.  Yes, that's the # 2 on the rib.  No, I didn't put it in the wrong spot.  This is a view from the other end.
