June 22, 2006

As mentioned earlier, today's post is kind of a synopsis of the work that's been going on for the last week or two.

Steel is up!  The roof (or floor for the upper level) is called 'pan' decking, and will support the concrete on the upper level.

Closer shot.

That's Kennny, the guy doing the work.  Well, he's doing most of it.  The steel was erected by some guys from a company called Hot Rod Welding.  Never would have thought that they did steel erection with a name like that, but they definitely know their stuff.  If you're putting up a steel structure in the Spokane area, give 'em a call.

Lots of little spot welds.

A close-up look at the L-beam edge, and the beam pocket with the top of the beam just visible.

A view from the back of the upper level.  There's some extra decking sitting on the right.

Close-up shot of a beam pocket, spot welds, etc.

Kenny's helper...working as hard as ever.  He might look familiar if you've looked at other pages.

The steel company didn't do a good job on the columns.  The erectors had to slice the columns down to size, and weld on new weld-plates.  They apologized for the roughness of their work.  I think it looks beautiful.
