June 15, 2004

Started out the afternoon playing with the dogs.  Here's another shot of Rosie, our new Shepard.  She's a swimmer like nobody's business.

Caesar, on the other hand, hates to swim, but loves to wade.  So he goes in just far enough to take the frisbee from her...which I then take from him.  Big Dawg rules!  (Must be because I was a U of W Husky).

She'll swim all day, but luckily she finally started getting tired, so I was able to move on to something a little more productive.

2 of the HS1004 ribs need to have their flanges bent 9˚.  I used a construction protractor to draw a line at 9˚ on a piece of paper.

I then used the 90˚ corner of the protractor to assure the rib was perpendicular with the bottom of the paper.  Unfortunately, every time I'd go to take a picture things would move (where's that third hand when you need it?).  Rest assured, this is 90˚ to the paper.

The other end gets bent in at 9˚.

Slightly different angle...

Then I got smart...after having the paper moving around, I got tired of that and grabbed one of the wood blocks lying around and drew a 9˚ line on that.  A lot easier to keep things aligned!

Time to get started on the nose ribs.

Stickers have been removed, and the residue cleaned off using 'Goo Gone', a cirtus based cleaner.  Not as effective as Goof-Off, but it's a lot easier on the nose!

The directions talk about fluting the flanges if necessary.  How's this for kit quality?  The flanges were already partially fluted!

Here's another shot showing the fluting.  I did end up having to flute a couple of pieces a little more, but they started off pretty damn straight.
