We got started late today as we went flying this morning! We were there when the Felts Field Aviation opened and up in the pattern soon after. We spent the morning just tooling around the pattern working on different landing techniques. I can tell I'm not flying as much as I used to, so always good to spend a couple of solid hours just banging (figuratively!) out landings. Drafted Jeremy to help me prep the parts for priming. It was either that or housework...he chose the plane. Good choice!
Pile of parts, ready to be scuffed & cleaned.
Jer was a great help. I grabbed an old mask I'd bought for an old girl friend, and it fit him perfectly. After that, we both grabbed a can and went to work. He hasn't done hardly any spray painting before, but he rocked on this stuff. Couldn't have done better if he'd tried, lol.
Kendall helped out by scrounging all the metal coat hangers in the house. Monique hates them and tends to exterminate them when she finds them, so I was surprised that she found as many as she did. We hung up as many parts as we had ready hangers for.
The stringers were what I really wanted to hand...the parts in the other picture above were just hung because I had the extra hangers. It's warm enough outside that we were able to paint outside, which kept the fumes in the shop down. The painting was done mid-afternoon, but the sun was hiding behind clouds and it was one of those rare, extremely muggy days, so we popped in a dvd and watched a movie. Tomorrow I pick Monique and her work cronies up at the airport, but I hope to get a few rivets shot in the HS either before or after. |
