July 1, 2004Ahh work...without it, you can't afford to build...with it...you sometimes don't have time to build...
All four blocks are cut. I lined them up and took a wood rasp so that they would be even. Only question is the actual bend in the nose, since the nose rib form doesn't give me that. I left plenty of room so there shouldn't be any issues. Update: I left too much room...I could have made it much tighter and it would have held a little snugger. Not a big deal, but just so ya know.
Home Depot saves the day again...bought some angle from them, cut it to size, and drilled the holes offset so that the screws from each side wouldn't interfere with each other. The plans only had one angle per block, but I figured a T shape would be better than an L for stability, so I put angles on both sides. I'm guessing it's because Van's expects the blocks to always be clamped, but I found that a lot of time they aren't while I cleco things together. If you leave them clamped, you risk forcing the assembly out of alignment.
Assembly time! The two nose ribs with the holes cut in them are cleco'd in place with the 1004 4-flange-trimmed ribs. |
