All of the rivets on the VS are done, except for the denoted by the red arrow, and it's mate on the other side of the spar. Neither of the two yokes I have can get on it due to the proximity to the hinge, nor do I have a 3/32" cup set for my rivet gun. I asked Brian Denk how he'd gotten it, and he'd shot it. Considering a cup set is $7 vs. $125 for thin-nose no-hole yoke, I ordered one today, along with some sealant for the rudders trailing edge.
Ahh, nice to have done (except for those two rivets mentioned above). I can certainly tell which rivets I shot earlier, and which later...
Back to the rudder...I'm cleco'ing on the skins getting ready to final drill
Trailing edge has been trimmed, and every hole on the spar and trailing edge has been cleco'd. Why? The plans say to drill and cleco every hole as you go. I noticed that the skin had a tendency to not sit exactly flat in certain areas (undoubtedly the reason for the instructions) so I decided to cleco them all up, and then drill. Sure it took longer, but at least I know the holes will be as good as I can get 'em!
One side is final-drilled. Tomorrow I'll drill the other side. |
