Welcome
Welcome to my builders site! Why a builders site? Various reasons...one of the best is that it's a darn good way to keep track of what I've done, especially if I have a lot of pictures (which I will).
Why build? That question deserves its own page, so it got
one. See Why?.
It's been a while since I've done a ton of
updating, and some of the sections such as the avionics are outdated.
I'll be working to get these cleaned up in the next couple of weeks.

The shop is done! Still needs paint, and some landscaping work w/
retaining walls, etc. but I'm moved into it.
June 5, 2007: Spent an hour catching up on the plans. It's been
so long since I did any real work, I needed to re-acquaint myself with
where I was at in the plans.

What's an RV-10 look like?

Avionics Thoughts |
| I admit it...I'm a geek. Given that, glass is good.
Vacuum belongs in my mom's house, sucking up dirt. So, that
means we're looking at a glass cockpit. That's one of the
beauties of homebuilding...you can actually get the type of aircraft
you want, w/o spending 1/2 a mil (well, unless you're building a Lancair). This list is still very loose, and subject to a lot
of change, but right now I'm thinking of basing the system around the Blue
Mountain Avionics EFIS-1 panel, perhaps with a Dynon
as a backup. So far the ACS2002
looks like one of the nicest engine monitoring systems out there.
Wonder if that'll work very well with an alternative engine like an Eggenfellner?
Blue Mountain now has a 2-screen setup that looks promising.
The Dynon backup might also function as an EIS; they've announced
plans for something like this...I should find out more in Arlington.
If the Dynon EIS doesn't work out, I'd probably end up going with
the Grand Rapids, which is
what the Egg normally uses.
Seen the new Garmin
1000 system? Looks absolutely awesome, and will probably be
available by the time I'm ready to make use of it. Might have to
give that one some thought! Best guess though is that I'd have to
sell both my children to pay for it! Only problem right now is that
Garmin has stated they are not supporting UPSAT's policy of allowing
experimental owners to install their own equipment. Garmin you
suck! (well, not really, but that policy sure does!)

Engine Thoughts
|
| Several possibilities here. Lycosaurs are always an option,
but I'm keeping a close eye on several other alternatives.
Jan Eggenfellner
and his new 6-cylinder are at the top of my list, but I'm a bit
concerned about the lower 230hp rating. I have plenty of time to decide,
so there's no rush picking a path now. The SMA
Engines that run on Jet A also look promising, if they can get the hp
where I need it. Bombardier
also has some interesting looking engines, depending upon how they
market/price them (best bets are they are going to be spendy). Some folks are talking about the Mazda 20B, but I
don't know enough about it at this point.
Delta Hawk is also
looking promising. They are currently developing an engine for
the certificated market, but also intend to market to the
experimental community. The
Delta Hawk is another
Jet A engine. One of the things about Jet A is that the fuel
tanks require a different venting setup than the regular 100LL
design, which means that the engine choice needs to be made before
the tanks are built. |
